Eclipse card-Spooky Cat

My downline group called the Super Snails had our monthly meeting on Saturday.  I demonstrated the eclipse technique to them and we each created a card or two using that technique.  

Jody used the Spooky cat stamp set and cut out the word DARE. I love the end result how about you.

Four letter words work the best for Eclipse cards, but if you squeeze the letters together you can get 5 letter words.  I have also seen samples where a rectangular picture frame was used for much longer words.

I am thinking of making a Christmas, Halloween, or even one that says Scheets, our last name.

Once you have tried the technique it is hard to stop.

I will show you a couple of cards I made that featured the cat punch.

Fix it Friday- Super Snails Challenge

     Does this picture look familiar?  Well, I posted it awhile ago as a make n take from the Spring Into Stamping event I went to in April.  I thought it would be fun to teach my downline how to make the card and then turn it into one of our monthly challenges.  This is the original card.

File Folder card challenge

 

     A couple of months ago at a downline meeting we made samples of file folder cards.  The challenge was to take the sample and turn it into a finished card.  Amanda F. had just joined our group and used some of her papers she had at home to make an adorable birthday card. 

   Nan turned her card sideways and added a simple but elegant accent piece. 

  
   I covered my card with some of the This and That papers, punched out some hexagons form another paper in the stack, added a saying and tied the card together with some baker's twine.  It was fun to try this challenge.  Look for what we all did for our watercolor challenge.  Check out this link for directions on how to make a file folder card of your own.

Saturday Sharing-Super Snail Dana

Dana said she got this idea from a stamping event.  I think pictures would look great in the blocks without letters.

   One of the things we do at the Super Snails downline meeting is show and tell.  You can never get too old for show and tell right!  Well, Dana had quite a few awesome items to share with us.  She made several for a craft fair.  Can't say which one I like the best.

I wonder how many butterflies there are on this picture.

   As soon as Dana pulled this one out it got Oohs and Aahs from all of us.

  I couldn't believe how simple it sounded to make this outstanding wreath.  I can see a new seasonal wreath with this same design. 

   I hope you will be inspired by Dana as much as I was.

Miscellaneous Monday-Join the Super Snails

     I am really excited to let everyone know that you can become a Super Snail for just $25 in the next two weeks. What is a Super Snail?  That is my downline group name.  You would be able to join the fun that we have in my group.

3-D Thursday-Peggy's Pen and Paper Pack

     One of the first things we did at the Super Snails event was make each other's shoebox swaps. What is a shoe box swap you might wonder.  Well, all the supplies are precut and handed out to each person present.  All they have to do is assemble the project.  Peggy had provided us with all the supplies so that we could make this easy and cute pen and paper pack.  Here is how we made it.

1. Black card stock measuring 8 1/2 by 4 1/4.  We scored it at
2 and 2 1/4 inches.

2. Winter Frost accent piece 1 inch long.

3. 8 inch ribbon attached to back of paper pack and tied into a bow.

4. Matching DSP cut 3 1/4 by 3/4 to roll in the RSVP pen.

     Peggy purchased some mini legal pads and had them cut into 2 inch strips.  We added some DSP on the top of the page and stamped a Christmas image every 6 or 7 pages. We attached it to the inside of the folder using Sticky Strip. What a cute gift to give for Christmas!  Thanks Peggy for a great project!

Wednesday Wow- Round Robin Stamping

The final product of my original design.  I used the thinlit Label card for my first step.

     Recently, I held a Super Snails Snacks and Stuff day for my downline.  Each person that was able to come brought a dish to share and a shoebox swap.  First we made each other's shoe box swaps which I will show later on this week, then we had a great meal, and finally we did some round robin stamping. 
    One of my other interests is quilting and there is a technique that is used called round robin quilting.  Each quilter starts out with a center square that they design.  They then pass that square on to someone else who makes a border around the square.  The original square keeps getting passed around to other quilters who add something else to the quilt.  When it is finally finished it is returned to the original designer.
    Well, I thought it would be fun to try this technique with my downline.  Here is how we did it.......

1. Each person chose a card base and either embossed it or used a thinlit card design. They passed it on to the next person

2.  Each person then added designer paper in some way to the card, then passed it on.

3. Next step was to get a coordinating color of cardstock or a neutral color, stamp a design on this paper, and add it to the card, then pass it on.

4.  Adding any kind of an accessory was the next step, and of course pass it on.

5.  The final step was to add a saying and give it to the original designer.

  Everyone had a great time and now knows where everything goes in my stamping room.

  An overview of everyone's round robin card.  We went around the table and shared with each other what part we had designed in the finished card.  This was so much fun I would do it again at another Super Snails Snacks and Stuff event.



Super Snails Washi Tape Challenge cards

Supplies for the April Challenge for the Super Snails



     At the April meeting of my downline, The Super Snails, we learned how to decorate ribbon so that it had a rainbow effect.  Then, I gave each person attending the meeting, 3 strips of washi tape and a piece of This and That Epic Day designer paper.  The challenge was to create a project using those items.  Well, last night was the night they brought back their finished projects.  Everyone agreed it was very challenging to find ways in include the washi tape, but I loved the results.

I had fun making this card, but wondered if it was too busy.

Janet twirled her ribbon into a cute ball.

Amanda used every bit of the ribbon.  I love the scarf and waist feature of the dress.

Cindy used some wire to make a flower focal piece.

And had enough supplies to make two cards. I think she added some of her own washi tape to this one.

     It was great fun to see how every one approached the challenge in a different way.  What would your card have looked like if you had gotten the supplies the Super Snails received?  I often take other people's designs as my starting off point for a card, but in these challenges they are always a Sushi Original.

      What exactly is a Super Snail?  Well, that is the name that my downline decided our group should be called.  We use snail adhesive to attach layers of cards together and we have a super fun time together.  What do we do as a group you might wonder?

1.  We have monthly meetings where we share ideas, create things, learn new techniques and inspire each other.

2. We attend events together.

3.  We support each other.

4. We share our love of Stampin'Up! products.

5. We enjoy being around each other.
