Snowfall Thinlits-3-D Thursday

If you guessed that my 3-D item made with snowflakes, might be an ornament then you guessed correctly.

First I cut out 6 of the largest snowflake using the new White Velveteen sheets.  The paper is thin enough to cut easily with the big shot.  I thought the paper might be thicker.

Next, I folded each snowflake in half making sure the velveteen side was on the inside.  

The next step was to put glue on the solid part of the snowflake and glue two together.  I kept adding a snowflake until I was glue the last and first snowflake together.

There was a hole in the center that I slipped some twine through, tied on a couple of snowflake trinkets on the ends, and added a dab of glue to keep the knots tied.

I thought the ornament needed a finishing touch, so I painted some glimmer paint on each tip.

It didn't take me too long to make, and I see this being a great gift to make for Christmas.  

Fall has arrived in Illinois.  The evening temperatures get down to the 30's and daily I notice the colors of fall coming out on the trees in town.  That is my favorite part of fall.

Lots to Love Box-Treat Holder

  Yes this cute holder was made with the Lots to Love box framelit.

1. Score using the measurements above.

2. Cut out the tiny tabs at the top of the framelit.

3. DO NOT FOLD ON THE VERY TOP SCORE LINE OF THE TAB.

4. Flip this over and place a small dab of glue to the top and bottom of the side panel on each side. 

5. Fold this section to the inside.  It will create a pocket that can hold your treat.

 I added a glue dot to my chocolate candy to attach it to the inside, but the right sized candy or treat would slide under the pocket we created on each side.

Lots to Love Box-Bigger Box

Can you believe that this box is made from the Lots to Love Box framelit.  It looks too big right?

A look at the top of the box might help you see a little bit more about how it was made.  See how cute it looks all folded together.

Here's how I made the box.

1. Cut 4 box shapes to start with.

2. Place glue, I like to use the tear and tape adhesive, on the side panels of just two of the shapes.

3. DO NOT FOLD THE TOP FOLD OF THE FLAP.

4. Attach all 4 box shapes together until you have a long box open at the bottom.

5. Cut a square piece with the measurements below. Cut out the tiny square on each corner after scoring 1/2 inch on each side.

6. Attach your adhesive on the little flap on each side and fold these sides in.

7. Secure this piece on the bottom of your box.

  Now, you have a much larger box and it went together quite easily.

Make a goodie bag for your downline or stamping friend with ribbon, and accessories to use on projects of their own.

Lots to Love box-Cheers Banner

  Are you wondering what a banner is doing on this week's Lots to Love box features?  Well, I made this banner using the box framelit. And here's how....

1. I cut out one box from the Bubble and Fizz designer paper that is free with a $50 order, and one box from some basic gray card stock.

2. I folded the box on the score lines and used some tear and tape adhesive to hold the two together.  This makes each part of the banner strong enough to be attached to the ribbon.

3. I then decorated each one of the banner parts using the Large Letters Framelits, some ovals of contrasting Bubble and Fizz designer paper.

4. I punched a hole in the top of each section and tied it to a piece of ribbon.

  After I made this sample I kept thinking of other ways to make a banner.

-Use my granddaughter's name and mail her a banner for her March birthday
-Make a banner for my downline with top sales for January and put the word Congrats on it
-Make a banner with the word love on it and have it at the breakfast table for my husband on Valentine's Day.

  What can you envision using this banner idea for?

Christmas Ornament-Foil Snowflake

I love the look of handmade ornaments on a tree. In fact when I was putting my ornaments away at the end of Christmas last year, I decided to only save the handmade ornaments.

Can you see how easy it would be to make this ornament?  

1. You will need 6 foil snowflakes folded in half.

2. Glue the left side of one ornament to the right side of a second.

3. Continue in this manner until you have one more side to glue.

4. Place your string between the last layer before pressing the glued sides together.  

Now you have a simple, but elegant looking ornament for your tree.  Since there are silver and gold foil snowflakes you can make some of each.

Night in Bethlehem-Framed Art

 Do you like to display your art work on the walls of your home?  I think it is fun now and then to make something that can hang on the walls. In preparation for the Holiday Launch party I was encouraged to make a variety of items with the same stamp set.  That was so much fun, I have to figure out a way to do that with each new set I receive.  It helps me realize the versatility of a stamp set and helps me share these ideas with all of you.

I had some long frames in my garage and decided to try to make a picture inside.  The background paper is from the designer paper stack called Delightful Daisy.  Yes, that is correct!  There were flowers on one side but this delightful blue pattern on the back that reminded me of the night sky.  So remember there are 2 sides to each designer paper.

1. The city scene was repeated twice using both the framelits.  The top layer was raised using dimensionals.

2. A foil snowflake was cut in half to be used as background to one of the sayings in the stamp set.

3. The star was cut out from gold foil paper.

It was a lot of fun to make and encouraged me to try more framed art projects.

Balloon Bash-3-D Thursday

     Do you wonder how I made this cute candy holder?  I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit die.  But, you might wonder to yourself it should be a lot bigger than that.  While I was at Leadership with Dina and Karen we started wondering if there was a way to make a skinny bag that would hold a Hershey bar.  So, here is what I did.....

1. I cut two pieces of the small part of the treat bag. 

2. I then attached them together using sticky strip.

3. The finished result measures 2 1/8 by 5 inches.  So,it is not big enough to hold a regular Hershey bar, but most definitely could hold a mini.

4. To finish off the bag, I used another stamp from the Balloon Bash stamp set, but two banners using the thinlit that goes with the Mini Treat bag set, and tied a bow with the matching ribbon from the Sale a Bration catalog.

New Gift Card Holder-3-D Thursday

 
   Don't you love finding ways to make life a little easier?  I think this gift card holder is one of those ways.  It is a framelit that can be cut from a 6 inch square piece of card stock or designer paper.  I used the All is Calm designer paper from the Holiday Catalog.  Tags, a heart and circle come along with the framelit.  What would you need a circle for you might ask?

  

  Check out the back of the holder and see the circles used as a way to close the holder.  I can think of a lot of times I would be able to use this.  But... if you are anything like I am you like the idea of being able to use this for something else.

   Check out the cover for this box.  Yes, it is the gift card holder flattened out to cover a box.  You might wonder what size you should make the box.  Well, I also have that information for you.

Box size  6 5/8 by 7 7/8 inches
Score each side at 2 inches and your box will fit nicely underneath the lid.

Fringe Scissor Flower box

    

     Have you ever looked at a picture and tried duplicate it for yourself?  When I was looking at the new catalog (for maybe the 15th time) I noticed a really cute flower on the back cover.  I thought it looked easy enough to duplicate and would be a cute item for my May Flower class.  Here is what I did......

1. Cut a 1 1/2 inch piece of Daffodil Delight card stock about 5 inches long.  I made a pencil mark at the 3/4 inch mark.  This would be my cutting line with the fringe scissors.

2. Make the fringe trying very hard to stop at the penciled in line.  Once that was completed, I trimmed the paper to about 1 inch.

3. Punch and crush 5 2 3/8 inch scalloped circle punches made from Crisp Cantaloupe card stock.

4. Layer the scalloped circles using glue dots in the center.

5. Roll the fringed paper into a tight circle and attach to the center of the scalloped circles with some hot glue.

   Now, you have a cute flower that can decorate any kind of a project.  Who would you give this cute box to/

Everything Golden Box

     Everyone needs a great box to give the perfect gift to someone special.  This is one of the flowers we made in my May flower class.  I love all the special gold items that were used in the creation of this box.

In color flowers

     Don't you love the look of flowers?  My recent class called Fay Flowers was so much fun.  Everyone made a vase of last years in color flowers. Well, I thought it would be fun to add some flowers for this years in colors.  You might wonder how I made the cute flowers.

1. Stamp and punch 3 flowers for each color you want in the vase. Glue them together using a glue dot or two.

2. Make some slits in the top flower so it can fold up a bit.

3. Add a button to the center.

4. Use the fringe scissors to make some filler for your vase.

5. Add a ribbon embellishment to finalize your project.

   Does this design look familiar to you?  I adapted the flowers I found in the old catalog on page 95.

Color Study Split Complementary

     I love trying out new color combinations and finding ones I might never have chosen on my own.  This combo is one of those. Choose a base color, in this case Island Indigo as the blue, then choose two colors that are next to its complement.  I chose Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral.

Easter Goodie Jar from Dina

   Isn't this a cute looking bunny jar?  I especially loved what was inside the jar.  My friend Dina gave it to me when I was in Champaign a couple of weeks ago.  The jar was stuffed to the top with chocolate Easter eggs.  Needless to say the jar is now empty.
  To recreate the bunny can you guess what punches would be used?

Scallop circle punch for the face
Heart from the owl punch for the nose
Owl punch eyes highlighted with a gel pen
Small Oval punch
Large Oval punch

The bunny is finished off with a cute silver ribbon bow

Envelope Punch Board Card Box

     I love learning new things.  At a recent visit to my brother and sister-in-law's home, Jennifer taught me how to make a box using the envelope punch board.  The box is just the right size to hold several hand made cards.  Don't you just love seeing the Natural's Composition designer paper used for the box?  I never would have thought of that myself.  Jennifer told me that she actually learned how to make the box from Becky Kittaka who is a demonstrator from Ohio. Here are the directions on how to make a similar box.

1. Cut a 9 inch square of whatever paper you want to use for your box.

2. Lay one side on the 3 1/2 inch mark on the punch board and punch and score.  Do not turn your card stock yet.  Move the card stock so it is now on the 4 1/2 inch mark and punch and score.  This is the last time you will need to measure your box.

3. Move the card stock to the left and line up the pointer part of the punch board with the first score line you come to.  Punch and score.  Now move to the second score line on the same side and punch and score once more.

4. Continue doing this on all sides of the box making sure to punch and score two times on each side.

5. Fold your box together, making a tiny snip on the bottom score line to allow the box to fold easily.  I like to use sticky strip to put my box together for a great hold.

6. Tie a ribbon around the box to keep the lid closed and decorate as you wish.

Fringe Scissor Flowers

     Would you like to know how easy it was to make these flowers?  I used the new Fringe Scissors that are in the Stampin'Up! Occasions catalog. 

1. Each flower has two layers of cardstock.  The inside layer is about 1/2-1 inch shorter than the outside layer.

2. The hint for using the scissors most effectively is to open them up as far as you can and then slide the paper until it touches the v of the open scissors.  That way you only have to make one cut for each fringe.

3.  The brown paper inside each jar was also made with the scissors.  I folded the old packing paper into 4ths so that when I cut the paper the scissors cut through the entire piece of paper.  Then I just opened each cut piece and bunched them together in the jar.

    I think I could easily be a flower making fool using these scissors. What would you use them for?

     Do you love getting things for free?  During Sale a Bration this card kit is one of the items that you can get free with a $50 purchase.  I think the card is really cute and very easy to put together since all the items needed are a part of the kit.  But, I like to find alternate ways to use the kits.  Come by the Open House today and make a cute little box out of the Good as Gold card kit.

3-D Thursday, A Halloween Banner

     When I saw a similar banner in the Holiday catalog, I thought it would be fun to make for either a class or my kids.  Well, I waited too long to make up the sample for a class, so I made 3 of these for each one of my kids families.  I knew my son Chris would not want one, but was pretty sure the other 3 would have fun with it.
    I was a little nervous completing the stenciling but it was easy and I had no problems.  The rest was a part of the Halloween Accessory kit.  Can't wait to find out what the kids think of the Halloween surprise I have for them.

Wednesday Wow-Halloween Game

     Several years ago I purchased some patterns from Create with Connie and Mary.  I made some really cute items from the patterns and just set the others aside.  I decided to look through the patterns and found this really cute game.  The box is one of our small clear mount stamp cases.  I made the haunted house to place on the top of the case.  I had great fun using a variety of Halloween stamps to decorate the house. 

     Inside the case is a matching game using all the Halloween stamps I thought would be appropriate.  I think the grand kids will have a great time playing this game. Who would you make this for?

3-D Thursday-Halloween Owl treat box

     My friend Linda does a great job of finding cute projects and bringing them to our get together so we can make them.  I love this owl treat holder don't you.

1. Cut card stock 8 1/2 by 2 3/4.  Score halfway and then 1/4 inch each side of the half way mark.  Fold this so that it will create a stand.

2. Using a circle punch create the ears at the top of the owl.

3. Emboss the front of the treat holder with the Fancy Fan embossing folder.  This will look like feathers.  Add punched out images to create the owl look you like.

Use sticky strip to hold the treat holder together.  A small bag of M&M's will fit inside the owl.

I plan to make some to give away to Grandchildren.

Fix-It Friday, Linda's mini hand sanitizer holder

     Linda came to the Super Snails event with the supplies for this cute little box.  After we talked about what could go inside the box, maybe nail polish, I remembered I had some mini sanitizers I had gotten on sale recently and they fit perfectly.  I also had some retired ribbon that worked out perfectly for a handle.  Linda mentioned hanging them on a mini Christmas tree.  Neat small gift idea.
We were all supposed to finish it up in some way.  Here is what I did....

     I used the For You stamp from the A Round Array stamp set.  It was easy to punch out with the smallest scalloped punch and then an accent piece with the next size scalloped punch.  Don't you love how all the punches coordinate with each other. I can see using this for party favors.  Peggy was going to put an initial on hers for each one of her friends.  What would you put inside or use this cute little box for?
