Stamparatus-Make it Simple Monday

    When I first saw this stamp set, I wondered how on earth a person could line up all the parts and have it look decent. Well, the Stamparatus is how that can happen. I have decided to acquaint you with the Stamparatus this week and show you all the wonderful things you can do with it.

I am calling this simple because you use the Stamparatus in the most simple way to create the saying.

Here is a great video that shows you all that the Stamparatus is capable of doing.

Set up the Stamparatus by attaching each plate.

1. First decide on the size of card stock you want to stamp on and place in the stamp Stamparatus.  You need to use the pad that comes with it along with some kind of scrap paper on top.

2. Decide where you want to place the card stock.  I usually place it in the upper right hand corner.  Anchor it with one of the magnets.

3. Place the outline stamp upside down where you want it on the card stock. Then, pull one of the plates down and it will pick up your stamp. Ink up the stamp and bring the plate down and up and your outline in now on your card stock. (When I use this at Cedarhurst, an assisted living facility, I tell the ladies to shut and open the door.

4. Decide where to place the second stamp, place it upside down and use the top plate to pick it up and stamp it. 

Now, you are wondering, what about the 3rd stamp?  This is the great part of the Stamparatus.

5. Hold one of the plates at a 50 degree angle, remove it and then turn it over and place it back where it came from.  

6. Now you can place the third stamp on the card stock upside down, pick it up with the plate you switched, ink and stamp.  You did not have to remove the stamp and replace it with another, and now you can make several cards with this stamp because each stamp remains in its spot.

I hope you can now see why I chose this card as a Simple card.  Tomorrow, I will show you how to create a template that will enable you to use the Stamparatus to make a wreath.

I hope you all had a great weekend.  My husband and I usually have pretty simple quiet uneventful lives, but this weekend we went to the New Chicago Brass Band concert on Friday night, and then last night to a show where the presenter impersonated Patsy Cline.  Great music both nights and fun to get out.

Flying Home-Template Thursday

Here are the basics of this template that could easily be repeated with each stamp in any stamp set.

Lift Me Up-Template Thursday

   Isn't this balloon thinlit striking when used all by itself?  Today I am going to show you how to keep the card pretty much same.  The only change I will make will be the saying and the background.

  For this card I chose to use the Carried Away designer paper free as a Sale a Bration item when your order totals $50. I thought the saying matched the background paper.

  For card number 2 I used progressively bigger strips of card stock as the background.  Once it was assembled, I placed the entire card from in the Softly Falling embossing folder.  For the saying I chose the birthday saying.  You can never have enough birthday cards...Right.

  This time I used a piece of water color paper and my aqua painter.  I painted Marina Mist and Night of Navy ink over the paper.  When it was dry I added some white clouds.  I like how they show through the balloon.  I cut up the saying so that it would fit in my empty space.

  The final card used an old technique I had forgotten about.  First I embossed the designer paper with the Woodland embossing folder.  Then I used some light sand paper and gently rubbed it over the designer paper.  Since the core of designer paper is white the white was displayed in the raised area of the image.

  I hope you can see how easy it is to get a different look from your cards but just changing one simple thing; the background of your card.

Jar of Love-Miscellaneous Monday

  Well, I had a wonderful time at the wedding shower over a week ago, and had an even better time relaxing and getting back into my weekly routine.

  This week I am featuring Jar of Love.  I had so much fun looking at the clever ways people have been using this stamp set.  For Miscellaneous Monday I decided to feature a simple card using the goldfish.  I got my inspiration for this card from a card the Tina Rapp made and posted on Pinterest.

1. I rounded the corners with the envelope maker. Am I the only one that finds that to be the best and easiest way to round corners?

2. Next I used the new embossing folder called Seaside to emboss the Pacific Point cardstock. Have you purchased the new Big Shot Platform?  It is raised in the center and does a most amazing job of embossing.

3. Finally I used the stamps and the middle sized jar to create the focal point of the card.  I thought a goldfish in a bowl, would be saying Hello to whomever walked by.

  One of the things I love about this stamp set is the matching framelits called Everyday Jars.  Just about every stamp in the set has a matching framelit to make it easy to cut out.

Remarkable You-Miscellaneous Monday

   Something happened Friday and my post did not get posted.  So you will have 2 to look at today.  I did not realize it was not there until last night.  Hmmm is this something I can blame on being 70?  That is the one good thing I can think of for being older, now I can blame my mistakes on my age.  

   This week I am featuring the stamp set Remarkable You.  I like the bold look of the images and think they coordinate really well with the Watercolor Words sayings.  What do you think?

   I was inspired by a card I saw posted by Brian King.  Here is how I made the look.

1. I used the Woodgrain embossing folder and then rubbed a sponge inked with Chocolate Chip ink all over the embossed image.

2. I stamped the leaves and some extra leaves on Wild Wasabi card stock.  

3. I fussy cut the leaves, the Happy Birthday and layered them on top of the embossed image.

Kinda Eclectic Fix it Friday

   This card was another make n take from convention using the stamp set Kinda Eclectic.  It was fun to make and used almost all the stamps in the set.  One of the things we learn how to do is step up a card.  So, we made a second version of this card only stepped it up a bit.  See if you can notice how we stepped it up.

 1. We added a vellum butterfly and a clip  to the original butterfly.

2. We inked up the honeycomb embossing folder, then pressed our card stock onto the inked side.

3.  We added loops of linen thread as accents behind the saying.

4. Finally, we added a thin strip of designer paper to help the saying stand out.

     How many other uses can you see for this card other than a birthday?  Sympathy, friendship, Mother's Day, thinking of you, and a simple Hello card are the ones that come to my mind.

How to make a plaid embossed background

     How do you make a plaid background from an embossing folder?  First of all you really need 2 folders.  Since I have only one folder I asked a couple of stampers if I could use theirs.  We will see who remembers to bring their folder with them tomorrow night. The process is very simple.

1.  Ink up the striped embossing folder on the top layer using a brayer that you roll in the ink pad of your choice.

2.  Place your background card stock inside the folder and run through the Big shot.  The stripes will be place on your card once you have finished embossing.

3.  Ink the second folder with a contrasting color and repeat the process after turning your previously inked paper 90 degrees.  In case you have only one folder you can wash the folder after embossing the first color and once it is dried re-ink with the contrasting color.

 Isn't that easy peasy?  I thought it was so easy when Cheryl Soerensen showed us how to create this look at one of our Jubilant Butterflies meetings.  This card was Cheryl's swap that day.  I love the look.  Come by my house on Friday night or Saturday and try it out for yourself.

Combining more than one embossing folder on a card can work.  What is your favorite item from the Spring Catalog and the Sale a Bration brochure?

     What is there about this bee that makes it look so cute?  This is one of the many stamps that are in the set called Spring Sampler from the Spring catalog.  I have enjoyed using the Jolly Bingo Bits, and the Spooky Bingo Bits and thought that StampinUp needed to come out with a spring or summer set.  Well, they finally did and I love the images in the set.
   There is no special embossing technique on this card, just a way to enjoy one of the newest embossing folders, the Honeycomb.  How do you like the matching envelopes I am using this year?

Vine Street Embossing Card

 
     Now that you know how to get a great look from your Vine Street embossing folder I thought I would share a card I made for my Sale A Bration open house that used the folder.  Was this card a Sushi original?  No, I CASED it from my friend Julie Davison and just changed it up a bit. Can you see how I changed her card to make it my own?

1. I used the entire folder and not just one strip.

2. I changed the size of the card making this one a standard card size 5 1/2 by 4 1/4.

3. I left off the saying making this a card that could be used for any occasion.

    Casing is fun and perfectly acceptable as long as you give the originator of the design some credit.  Thank you Julie for your inspiration.

How to Fix an Embossing Folder

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   Have you tried to emboss with an embossing folder only to have the image tear and look pretty ragged?  That happened to me when I first used the Woodgrain embossing folder and then again when I used the Vine Street folder that is one of the free items offered as a part of Sale A Bration.

    
     I finally found  solution that works like a charm. 
1.  Cut a piece of Vellum card stock that is slightly smaller than the top part of your embossing folder. (The side with the StampinUp logo on it)
2.  Place several stripes of Snail adhesive on the Vellum card stock about every inch top to bottom.
3.  Press the Vellum onto the top layer of the embossing folder.

  
    Now, when you emboss the paper will come out looking smooth and no wrinkles can be found.  I am not sure where I learned this technique, but I thank the person who discovered it because it has changed the quality of some of my embossing.

Sparkly Santa

     One of my regular stampers, Judy, brought me some seasonal cocktail napkins,( what we used to call them years ago) that she had tucked away in her house.  She wondered if theywould work for the Sparkly Napkin technique.  The was another card I showed off on Tuesday as an example of how to incorporate the technique in a card.  I tried a smaller size and different shape than I had used in any of the other cards.  I really liked the results and yes, this is another Sushi Original.  I used the scalloped tulle ribbon for the bow, and embossed the background of the card using the Polka Dot embossing folder.  I made the Santa into a tag so that you could remove it from your card and perhaps hang in on the tree.  Or, since I am a big recycler, use it as a Christmas tag for next year.    Tuesday was the monthly meeting of the Jubilant Butterflies and I was signed up to present a technique to the group.  I immediately decided I would show the demonstrators how to use a napkin or a kleenex to make a bright sparkly card.  I knew from watching previous demonstrators that I needed more than one sample of my technique and only had two cards already made.  So, I had an hour or two to spare and made this card and the card I will show you tomorrow.  I had so much fun and for once was stamping for enjoyment.  What surprised me was how much I liked the cards I made and they were my original ideas. I call cards I have not copied Sushi Originals.  What do you think of this color combination? Can you find the blog entry where I gave directions for this technique?

New use for a Napkin

 

   One of the things I love researching is new techniques to use on cards.  I remember years ago trying out a technique called Faux Linen.  When one of my downline brought me some Kleenex with Christmas decorations on it I immediately thought of using the Faux Linen technique to turn it into a card.  How does one create a card using Faux Linen you might ask?  4 easy steps is all it takes.
        1.  Cover a piece of cardstock thoroughly with glue stick
        2.  Crumple a precut piece of Kleenex into a tiny wad
        3.  Unfold the wad but don't spread out all the wrinkles
        4.  Place the wrinkled Kleenex on top of the cardstock piece and spread it out, managing to keep some wrinkles in place. The edges can be glued to the wrong side of the cardstock.
   Check out the card I made using this easy technque. I would love to see a sample that you make using the Faux Linen technique.

More about Sushi

      My mom was a Home Ec teacher and as a result I have been exposed to a lot of different crafts.  It seems that stamping and sewing are the two that have stuck the most with me.  I love this card because it kind of combines my two loves into one card.  I remember mom using a dress form to make sure that the outfit she was sewing for me would fit just right.  So, when I saw this stamp set I just had to have it.  Do you notice anything else on this card that I mentioned that I love?  You guessed it, the embossing folder which creates a great background for this simple card.
