Framed Art for October

This was last year's framed art for October.  I got the idea for the art from Connie Babbert.  I loved the picture and so did the ladies who made it.  Well, some new stampers looked at the framed art pictures each month when they came to class and decided they too wanted monthly framed art pictures.  Major Problem  Most of the items on the picture are retired items and I believe in using only current items on my projects and here is why.  What is the ladies wanted to purchase one of the items so they could make more pictures for family and friends.  They would be out of luck.  So for the October framed art I had to change up some things.

Can you see what I changed?

New designer paper for the background

A spider doily instead of washi tape and a circle

An image from the stamp set Among the Branches (you will be able to order on Sept 4th)

Boo! from the new framelits called Boo to You

I love the changes and so did my stampers.

In-color Banners-Get Well card buffet

What do you think of the new in-colors for 2015-2017?

Watermelon Wonder
Cucumber Crush
Delightful Dijon
Mint Macaron
Tip Top Taupe

This card features another favorite photopolymer stamp set called Lovely Amazing You. How did I get the Tip Top Taupe accent piece?  Well, I just cut one the label punches in half and glued each half to the top and bottom of the saying.

Which new in-color is your favorite?

Kinda Eclectic-Get Well card buffet

As you can tell by now, I love a simple card.  The message you want to send is not overshadowed by the design of the card.  This card was inspired by the make n takes at Spring Into Stamping event held last April. I like to review the make n takes I receive over time to see if any fit into my monthly classes.  I think this layout would work with a lot of different stamps.  Hmm maybe that can be one of my challenges for myself this week.

New In-Colors

I always think that a card that features one color has its own attraction.  This card that we made at Robin's class several weeks ago features one of our new in-colors Watermelon Wonder. Can you see in this card what the new items are that feature that color?

2015-2017 In-Color designer paper stack
Watermelon Wonder ink pad
New in-color 1" Dotted Lace Trim

The added swirl and saying come from the Tin of Cards stamp set.  Tin of Cards what is that well, that will be saved for another blog entry.

Butterfly Basics-Get Well card buffet

Wouldn't it be nice to get a card in the mail just because?  This card has the collage look that I love, but don't always know how to create.  Robin featured this card in her class a couple of weeks ago.  Here's what I love about it.....

1. The colors are limited to gray and crumb cake.

2. The lace layers are simple but add some pizzazz to the card.

3. The layered butterflies.  If they ever are eliminated from out catalog I will be one disappointed woman.  A butterfly seems perfect for any occasion.

Who would you send a just because card to?

Wetlands-Get Well card buffet

Can you figure out what stamp sets are used in this card?  Wetlands for the birds, Kinda Eclectic for the sun, and You've Got This for the background.  After stamping all the images I used Lots of Labels framelits to cut out the image.  This was based on a swap I received at convention.  And I love it. How about you?

Vintage Leaves-Get Well card buffet

What are the three colors used on the  background of this card you might be asking yourself?  Would you be surprised to know that only one color of ink was used?  The top stamped image was made using Cajun Craze and so were the other two images.  The stamp was never reinked.  So, you can get the look of 3 different ink colors by just using one ink.  We call this stamping off and I think it is a great technique, how about you?

Watercolor Wings-Get Well card buffet

Doesn't this card remind you of Monarch Butterflies?  This was one of the cards I made at Robin's class last weekend and repeated at my class last Monday.  It is two-step stamping at its best.  I can't wait to create some more cards using this set.

Sheltering Tree-Get Well Card Buffet

I love this card that I made at Robin's Summer's End card class last Saturday.  I loved it so much that I used it for my Get Well Card Buffet on Monday of this week.  I changed the saying to reflect the theme and realized how many different occasions this card would be appropriate for.

Thank You
Sympathy
Get Well
Thinking of You
Birthday

What occasion can you think of to use this card?

Bubble Blowing Technique

Check out the background paper.  I used Tempting Turquoise, and Night of Navy.

Last night was my monthly technique club meeting. I looked all over the Internet for a technique I thought would be fun and found Bubble Blowing to be what I was most interested in.  Come to find out Lisa does this will her preschoolers.  So, I guess I have come full circle.  It really was fun.  I watched a great video produced by Dawn Griffith from Stampin'Up!

Bubble Blowing results

1. Fill a paper cup with 3 squirts of liquid hand soap.

2. Add reinker to make the color you desire.

3. Finally, add water to equal the amount of hand soap you placed in the cup.

4. Stir, then blow into the cup using a straw until the bubbles make a mound at the top of the cup.

5. Press your card stock on top of the bubbles until you get the paper covered to your liking. You may have to re-blow to get the results you want.

6. Press paper towel onto any bubbles that remain on the paper.

7. Let dry.  Or repeat the procedure for an additional.

I tried using white reinker.  It dries a lot clearer so I added more for a later project.

How did Lisa make this technique work with preschoolers?  She put a  hole in the straw so if they sucked instead of blew through the straw the ink would go out of the straw.  Clever idea I never would have thought about.

Sleigh Ride Thinlits part 2

Does this card look familiar to you?  It is quite similar to my swap for the Jubilant Butterflies meeting.  In fact it is Rae Anne's swap for that same meeting.  I love her sky, don't you.  Do you wonder how she did that?  Well, it was demonstrated at our convention held in July.  I was glad to see this because it reminded me of the technique I had forgotten about.

1. Take some Tombo glue in a container and dilute it with some water.

2. Soak the mixture in a paint brush tip.

3. Tap the paint brush on the edge of your hand to make sprinkles of the glue on your cardstock.

4. The glitter will stick to the glue and make a wonderful star filled sky.

Thanks Rae Anne for the reminder. Can't wait to try it on my own.

Happy Birthday Everyone-Hostess Set

What do you like about this card?

1. I like the way the saying is placed on the card at an angle.  I never think out of the box like that.

2. I like how only 1/3 of the card is embossed, I usually emboss the entire card.

3. And of course I like the fact that is uses Washi tape, even on the envelope!

This was one of the 12 cards we got to choose from at Robin's End of Summer stamping class on Saturday.

Celebrate Today

I had a fun day on Saturday with my friend Linda.  We headed out to Springfield for a morning of stamping at an event hosted by my friend Robin.  It was called Summer's End stamping.  Anytime I can get together and make cards with friends is a good day in my book.  This was one of the cards we could elect to make.  You really can't tell but there is some glitter on the dots on the balloon.  Anyone would love to get this card on his or her birthday don't you think?

Knollwood- DSP Creativity

Can you see how I used the various papers from the Adventure Bound designer paper pack.

1. I created the bird using the water paper because I thought it looked a bit like feathers.

2.  The grass made a great looking branch.

3. I used the brick background to make the flowers and the grey on the back of the same paper for the dot in the center of the flower.

You might wonder how the seniors could get the teeny tiny center on the flowers.  I used our new fine tip glue pen to attach the centers on the flowers.  It will make gluing tiny items so easy and will be available to purchase on September 4th. Are you as excited as I was about this new item?

Knollwood-Plenty of Punches

It was hard to believe that it was time to go to Knollwood and stamp with the Seniors that live in this assisted living facility.  Today was the day.  Since none of the ladies have the income to purchase anything from me, I find this a good place to use up some of my leftover retired items.  I love designer paper and find I end every year with more than I used.  The background and the accent pieces were punched out of leftovers from the Stacked with Love designer paper stack.

Sprinkles of Life

Linda brought a card she wanted to know how to make to the Super Snails meeting on Tuesday afternoon and we figured it out.  I will describe how to make it in another post.  I think the saying from the set Perfect Pennants goes really well with an ice cream cone that has fallen.  What do you think?

Holiday Catalog Sneak Peak-Sleigh Ride Edgelits

One of my favorite things from the Holiday catalog is this edgelit set called Sleigh Ride.  The uses for this set are endless.  At the August meeting of the Super Snails yesterday afternoon we each created a card using these edgelits.  I am sure you will see more examples using these before the Christmas season is over.

Final Convention Gift from Leslie

This last convention gift was a tag for my purse.  At each Stampin'Up! event we get a bag.  Each year the bag is different.  But, everyone at the convention gets the same bag.  So, Leslie, my upline made these tags to go on the bag.  Best part, on the back of the tag was a personalized message to me from Leslie.  I love the tag and might try to create a card in a similar design. Thanks Leslie! I think I came home with some awesome gifts from friends.  That doesn't even include all the free materials we got from Stampin'Up!

Gift from a Convention Friend

One of the things I enjoy about Convention is meeting all kinds of people.  About 6 years ago I met two women that were the kind that you feel like you have known for ever.  We managed for several years to room together at our Leadership conference.  Sue one of our roommates has since passed away, but Dina and I keep in touch.
Dina has had a notebook for me every year that we have roomed together.  This year was no exception.  Even though we were not roommates this is what she gave me.  Doesn't it look just like a clutch purse?  Open it up and it is a journal.
Thanks Dina!

Even more convention gifts

Jody took one of our button containers and turned it into something you could attach to your purse and put whatever you wanted close at hand inside.  She put in some wipes.

She also gave us a small notebook to be used as a journal.

Love it Love it Love it

More convention gifts-Notebook

Darcy handed us these awesome notebooks before we left for convention.  There were several sections one for plane and hotel information, and one for notes.  Can you see my stack of notes peeking up from the top of the notebook.  They were personalized too.  Sushi is on the top of mine. It sure came in handy.  Thanks Darcy.

Rommate Gifts-Super Snails

At convention you often make gifts for each of your roommates a tradition I enjoy.  Linda presented me with this cute little box.  I love the owl just looking down at me.

When I opened up the box there was a cute sewing kit inside.  Now, that is something handy to have with me whenever I go out of town.

But that was not all that Linda gave us....

She found these cute boxes and had them loaded with goodies.  No point in opening it up for you since all the goodies are gone!  Thanks Linda!

Something for Baby and Baby's Firsts

Two ladies that stamp with me at the Senior Center called to say they needed 2 hand stamped cards to attach to a baby gift.  I went to .........yes, Pinterest and got an idea for this card.  I wanted the cards to be similar since they were for a mother and daughter.

I decided to use the same colors and take advantage of the cute cut-out onesie.  The ladies were happy and I was too.  I think I will use this when I have my next Birthday card buffet.

Christmas Through the Year-Lovely as a Tree

I love my Christmas Through the Year card class.  It is my favorite holiday and I get to think about it every month of the year.  Each month the ladies, I  would welcome some guys but so far none come, make 3 cards from the same design.

I needed a last minute idea for the card for July due to some bad planning on my part.  I thought for a bit and decided to check out my convention swaps for ideas,

This is the card I swapped with Jody my downline.  I checked my supplies and had to change some things.  Do you see what I had to change?

1. I have not purchased the Lots of Labels thinlits yet so I used the ovals.

2. I wanted some texture on the background so I embossed the background with the stars embossing folder.

3. I did not have enough of the Cherry on Top paper stack to use so I used the Pretty Petals paper stack.

Thanks to Jody and her great card idea, I had a design for my Christmas card in a really short time.  Swapping is created for just that reason.

Convention Gift-Gift Bag punch board

It hardly seems possible that a week ago I was traveling home from convention.  It is something I look forward to from the day I register in April until I arrive in Salt Lake City in July.  A tradition that I have been following each year, is to make your roommates, and your group members a gift. This year I made these cute bags which I called survival bags and added butterflies on the petals of the flower.  Our group is called the Butterfly Friends so that seemed necessary.
Inside each bag was Kleenex because the main stage speakers manage to make us cry at some point each year.
Advil because a headache seems to happen when you get little sleep each night/
Hand Sanitizer because you are touching all kinds of places that lots of people have touched
   Wipes for whatever you need
Bandaids which I ended up needing right away.  Of course the bandaids had to be Hello Kitty ones.
A granola bar in case you have no time for breakfast
Most important of all chocolate for whenever and whatever.

Sympathy Card Buffet-Petite Petals

I love these two greens together...Mint Macaron and Mossy Meadow.  I found a similar card created by Helen Burnley on Pinterest.  I changed up her colors and the ribbon but kept the layout the same.  I think this makes a wonderful sympathy card, I just hope it stays in my card box and that I never have to use it.

Check out my blog tomorrow for some more card samples.  Thanks to technology I will be in Oregon for a Davis family reunion, and I can still have a blog post.
