Brilliant Brights-My Favorite Coastal Cabana

Were you right? Did you guess Coastal Cabana?  Now, can you guess what stamp set I used for this card?

If you guessed Peaceful Reflections then you were correct.  This was a stamp that I won on Prize Patrol in Milwaukee.  To be quite frank it was my least favorite stamp set in the entire catalog. But since it was a gift I have tried to find ways to like it.  

1. I started out by stamping what looks, to me, like a lily pad flower, 3 times.

2. Then I went back and turned the stamp around and matched the centers and stamped again to create a new flower.  

3. To add texture I used to dots found in the Waterfront stamp set.  I inked the stamp, stamped it on scrap paper and then on the card for background. (called stamping off)

4. I thought the card needed something else so I stamped the dragonfly, the part of the set I have loved from the get go.  I tried using the extra pieces that fill in the dragonfly wings.  These I also stamped off once I used them.  I liked how that changed the look of the dragonfly.

5. I found the Happy Birthday saying in the You're Inspiring stamp set.  I chose it because I liked the size and the font.

Brillliant Brights-Yellow, Blue and Green

  Last week I featured this stamp from Animal Outings, in my blog.  I think these animals are so cute and even though they could be used on kid cards, I will use them for lots of people.

The great thing about this new color revamp is that each color in the family looks great with any of the others, like demonstrated in this card.

The giraffe looks like he's talking so the words Thank you Big Time work well as the saying.

I embossed the background using Layered Leaves embossing folder.
Then stamped and punched the leaves using both Granny Apple card stock and ink
I used a little bit of Coastal Cabana re-inker and an Aqua Painter to make a light background on the saying circle.

The layered circles framelits came in handy for cutting out the parts of the focal point of the card. Card is finished.

For the 5th day, I decided to make a monochromatic card featuring my favorite color from the Brights Collection.  Make a guess as to what you think that might be and then come back tomorrow to see if you were correct.

Brilliant Brights-Mango Melody

 I thought it would be fun to feature a card with all the bright Collection colors on it and this is what I came up with.  I also like to show case one of two hostess sets.

Just what is a hostess set?  They are shown at the back of the catalog and can only be purchased when you are the hostess.  The price of the stamp is a lot lower than if it was in the main part of the catalog. I liked this stamp, Seasoned with Kindness, because there are all kinds of plants that you can place in the vase.  There is also a lot of 2-step stamping with stamps that are easy to use.

The Mango Melody color show up a lot better in this picture than the one above.
I first tried a strip of all the colors that was  the width of the card and did not like that so I cut it down so it is about 2 inches wide.

The stamp set is photo polymer so it is easy to line up the stamps, especially if you stamp the dark outline first.  I am planning on feature one color family each month for the next 3 months and will make a similar card each month to showcase all the colors.

Brilliant Brights-Pinks and Reds

This was one of the new sets that attracted my attention. Do you like puzzles?  We usually have a jig saw puzzle going at our reunion and I like to take a break now and then to work on it.

This stamp set Love You to Pieces has so many possibilities.  

For this card I....

1. Cut out the pieces using the 3 colors for today.

2. Reassembled the puzzle alternating the colors and leaving one white area in the center.  At first I left it truly empty but then it was hard to place the next piece exactly as it should be, so I put a white piece in that spot.

3. Stamped the image and then added the missing puzzle piece.

I had so much fun with this card, I know I will feature this stamp set in a later blog so I can show you all its parts.

I have 4 sisters and 1 brother and we live coast to coast.  After our mother passed away we decided to try and get together once a year knowing full well if we did not we would never see each other.  So, this is our 8th reunion.  We don't all make it each year, but it is good to be able to see each other when we can.

Have you seen all the new colors and how they work into each color family?  I thought I would feature some cards that showcase each one of the colors in the Brights Collection this week.  In fact I created a class featuring this weeks cards.  Check it out here.

  This is a new distinctive stamp from the 2018-2019 annual catalog.

To make today's card I followed these steps.....

1. First, I used an acrylic block and markers to scribble the 4 colors featured today on the block.

2. Next I spritzed the block to allow the colors to spread and blend a little.

3. I placed a piece of card stock over the block and pressed.

4. When this was dry I stamped my images on top.

As a final touch I added some pearls.  I thought they could look like drops of dew.  

Tomorrow, I will share a card made with the red and pinks from the Brights family, and feature the Love You to Pieces stamp set.

I hope everyone is staying cool and finding some time to stamp.  I am in Ohio attending the annual Davis Family Reunion.  We are at my brother's house where there is a pool.  So, no matter how hot it is outside, I know we can cool off.

Scrapbook Week-High Tide

  Can you see what is the old in this layout?  How about the new?

I was able to use most of what I had left from the By the Sea designer paper for the backgrounds of this layout.  The Old.

The new was the Light house, and birds from the set called High Tide. I was so glad that this set was in the new catalog because I did not use it as much as I wanted when it came out in the Occasions Catalog.

Tomorrow I will show you a layout made with retired products, but suggest how you could make the same layout with new product.  Come back to see how easy it is to copy each layout.

Embossing Paste-Garden in Bloom stamp set

  I had a downline meeting on Friday and we played with the new embossing paste.  So this week instead of the cards for my in-color class, I am featuring cards I made with the new embossing paste.  It is so much fun and easy to use.

This card used the stencil that has small little diamonds on it.  I used the paste all by itself without adding any color.

The paste was put on the new in-color, powder pink card stock.  so, for my flowers I decided to use each one of the pinks we now have in our color families. ( Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride and the new Powder Pink.)Start on the bottom left and then the bottom right and finally the top to see the color differences. I can see a difference can you.  

I featured the stamp set Garden in Bloom, and old favorite that is still in the catalog and one I have not used for quite a while.

Jar of Love-Template Thursday

  I am in love with Shaker Cards.  They are so easy with the supplies that Stampin'Up! has now in their catalog.  Foam Adhesive Strips, Window sheets and lots of accessories to have shake around. My latest youtube video shows you the steps you need to take to make any kind of a shaker card.

This weeks template is

This first jar is actually its own shaker element that has been added to the card background. The elements inside the jar are the neutral sequins.

  The second jar has been cut out of the designer paper.  The hearts inside the jar were made with the Confetti Hearts border punch.

 This final jar was made using the Halloween set that coordinates with Jar of Love.  It is called Jar of Haunts and can be found in the new Holiday catalog.  I couldn't resist putting googlie eyes inside the jar.  However as I shook the card they turned over and do not look like eyes at all.  The Black drip hanging over the jar is from the new stamp set called Ghoulish Grunge.

Jar of Love-Wednesday WOW

 Where's the Jar you might ask yourself?  Well, the great thing about this stamp set is you can use it for more than just the jar. I loved this version of the stamp set that I found on Pinterest.  It was created by the person whose blog is called Stampin days.

1. I stamped and cut out 6 of the leaf stamps, and 3 of the flowers.
You might think I have a counting problem, but the flowers are one stamp and the thinlits cut them out together.  Since they are so small that is a great thing in my book.

2. Underneath the wreath is a tiny wreath I made using the layered circle.  I knew I would never be able to make a great looking circle without some kind of a guide.

3. Finally I made a bow out of the gold baker's twine from the Baker's Twine Trio pack found in the Holiday catalog.  Don't have an Holiday catalog yet, let me know and I will have one sent to you. 

  This was fun to make and a WOW to look at.  Come back tomorrow to see different ways to make shaker cards using this set.

Fresh Fruit-Miscellaneous Monday

    I made this card a couple of weekends ago when I went to Champaign to Vacation Stamping School sponsored by the Impeckable Stampers.  The set is called Fresh Fruit, but has some great flowers in the set also.

In this World- Miscellaneous Monday

  And here it is!  This stamp set called In This World was the one that jumped off the page of the new catalog and intrigued me on my first pass through the catalog.  Why do I think it intrigued me?

1. It had a collage look to it and I have come to really love collage cards.  They are hard to ruin and little mistakes can be easily covered up.

2. I liked the architectural look to the images.  I love math and think that is why that part of the design appealed to me.

3. It was very different.  I tend to gravitate to the same kind of stamped images but this was so different.  

   I have had great fun creating the cards for this week.  For this card I used Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, and Very Vanilla.  I stamped the keys on Cajun Craze scraps, cut them out and attached them to the card with the thin Gold ribbon.  Every door needs keys to open it right!

Swirly Bird-Technique Tuesday

   I love how the background in this card helps pop out the flowers.  How did I make it?

1. I cut a piece of watercolor paper to fit the card.

2. I chose 3 colors of ink pads, Emerald Envy, Rose Red and Sweet Sugar Plum.  Then I squeezed each ink pad to make a pool of ink on the lid.

3. Finally I took an aqua painter and making sure the tip was wet dipped it in the ink and spread it over the water color paper squeezing water onto the paper if I needed to lighten the color.

  Several stampers were a little nervous and really did not like the results when they first saw them, but once the put the flowers and leaves on the card they loved what they did.  And that is what Stampin'Up! is all about.... We Love what we do!

Swirly Bird-Miscellaneous Monday

  Swirly Bird has been a such great hit that Pinterest is loaded with ideas on how to use this stamp set and matching Thinlit.  I loved looking at all the great samples and had fun choosing the ones I wanted to feature.

  For Miscellaneous Monday I decided to feature the curly circle that has little leaves coming off the sides.  A perfect Thinlit for a tree top.
Can you guess what the trunk of the trees is made from?  The branch from the Tree Builder punch.  How about the hearts?  They are punched out from the Owl Builder punch.  And the saying is from the set called Endless Thanks.

Serene Scenery-Fix it Friday

  This card should look familiar.  It was one of the featured cards from yesterdays template cards.  Here is how I fixed it....

1. First I added strips of the designer papers I used all week.  My husband was not impressed, but I tried to layer the papers so they looked like sky, leaves, ground and grass.  

2. Then I used the saying from the set called Me=Grateful.  I stamped it and cut it up placing each part of the saying in a different section of the card.  

3. I tied the ribbon to try and bring the parts together.  It seemed to work for my husband so I guess that was a success.

Here is an over view of Serene Scenery week.  It was fun to try and create cards that met each one of the categories for the week.

Serene Scenery-Template Thursday

This design is made to look like the Bokeh technique.

Sometimes the designer paper is so perfect it just does not need much else to go with it.  The stamp set I chose to use on these papers is called Scenic Sayings.  It is bold and large and designed  to go with this paper.

    I love watching the grasses wave in the wind.. and yes it makes it a happy day.

  I am sure you love like me to blow the seeds from the dandelions in the wind.  I love how the picture shows them just on the bottom of the design leaving plenty of room for a saying or accent piece.

The sun shining through the leaves made a perfect spot for this saying. Don't you think anyone would love to get one of these cards?  Simple but beautiful in the art work of the paper.
